Speaking at the conference, Dong Thap Vice Chairman, Chau Hong Phuc, stated that trade and investment cooperation between the two sides has not been highly effective despite the execution of many exchanges and experience-sharing activities.

He added that very few Dong Thap enterprises have invested in or undertaken trade activities with Salavan, Champasak and Vientiane, while there are also no Lao businesses in the Vietnamese province.

At the conference, the leaders of Dong Thap, Salavan, Champasak and Vientiane informed each other of the local economic situation, introduced the local strengths and incentive policies with a view to forging cooperation in seafood processing, pharmaceuticals and food.

Participants expressed their expectation that following the conference there will be more cooperation agreements between Dong Thap and Laos’s Salavan, Champasak and Vientiane.

On the occasion, the Lao delegation visited a number of aqua, mango and flower farms in Dong Thap province.

The conference was part of the Dong Thap trade and investment fair taking place from December 1-6.
