Valued at US$4.32 billion, Viettel - the first Vietnamese brand to make the list - is ranked 478th. Viettel's brand value has increased by 35.8%, equivalent to over US$1 billion, compared to 2018.

Viettel's value is highly appreciated due to its presence and contributions in 10 foreign markets. This shows that Viettel has become a highly competitive enterprise in the international arena.

David Haigh, CEO of Brand Finance, said that every year his consultancy conducts an assessment of about 5,000 global brands in 40 different areas on various criteria, such as revenue or brand strength index. To be listed among the 500 most valuable brands proves that Viettel is a strong brand, he added.

The world's 500 most valuable brands cover all areas, including telecommunications, technology, automobiles and oil and gas, with big names such as Amazon, Apple, Google, Mercedes-Benz, Shell and Telstra.

Of the total of roughly 5,000 businesses worldwide, around 500 Southeast Asian businesses were included in the assessment and only eight of them were listed in the top 500 in the three areas of telecommunications, oil and gas, and banking.

Previously, Brand Finance announced a list of the 50 most valuable brands in Vietnam in 2018. Accordingly, Viettel continued to be the No. 1 brand in value, with a valuation of over US$3.1 billion (up 23.7 % compared to 2017), equal to the total combined value of the second and third brands in the ranking.

2018 was a successful year for Viettel as it pushed towards a global technology enterprise. Last year, its foreign telecommunications recorded positive results, with service revenue growing by 20%, mobile subscribers up by 70% and net cash flow from international operations reaching US$240 million, 3% higher compared to 2017.
