Ivory Coast to enhance agricultural cooperation with Can Tho city

A delegation from the Ivory Coast, led by minister and secretary general of the presidency of the country Achi Patrick, worked with leaders of the Mekong River Delta city of Can Thoon May 28, during which they discussed measures to promote cooperation in agriculture.

Speaking at the working session, Vice Chairman of Can Tho city People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Dung said that the city and Ivory Coast have similar features in the direction for agricultural development.

Can Tho is able to enhance cooperation with localities in the Ivory Coast in various fields, including the exchange between enterprises from the two sides, aquaculture, food, production of crops, animal and poultry feeding, rice processing and post-harvest preservation of fruits, he added.

For his part, Minister Achi Patrick said that Vietnam and Ivory Coast have quite similar climatic conditions, so his delegation would learn about development models in Vietnam to identifythe priority areas for his country’s development in the near future.

He also pointed out potential fields for the cooperation between Ivory Coast and Can Tho, including the study of rice, selection of high-quality seedlings, and application of technological advances in agriculture.

Minister Achi Patrick also wished to boost links in the processing of agricultural products, exports and aquaculture.

Currently, 80% of specialty rice in Can Tho is grown for export, with a total annual output of nearly 1.3 million tonnes. The second major product is tra fish with an output of 160,000 tonnes per year.
