The event, part of activities under the 2019 national trade promotion programme, brought together dozens of enterprises from the two nations across various fields.

Addressing the seminar, Trinh Xuan Hieu, a representative from Vietnam’s trade mission in Russia, highlighted the fine traditional friendly relations and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, reflected through the regular exchange of visits by their senior leaders.

Vietnam-Russia economic and trade cooperation has also been growing strongly, especially since the Vietnam-Eurasian Economic Union free trade agreement came into effect in October 2016, he said.

Hieu affirmed that the trade mission and the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia always stand ready to do everything possible to support and boost cooperation between companies of the two countries.

Sergey Zhuravlev, head of the strategic development department at Food City Trade Centre, stated that, over recent times, Vietnam’s farm produce has been on the rise in the Russian market.

Some items have even strengthened their position, which proves that these products are of high quality and are favoured by Russian consumers, thus attracting the interest of wholesalers and retailers in Russia, he added.

During the seminar, the two countries’ businesses met directly, exchanged information and introduced each other’s products to seek suitable partners, thence discussing the signing of cooperation deals.

Earlier on May 29, as part of their working trip to Russia, the delegation of Vietnamese businesses attended the Vietnam-Russia Business Forum and had meetings with Russian firms in Saint Petersburg.

Vu Ba Phu, Director of VIETRADE, hailed the forum as an opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to advertise their products to Russian businesses, distributors and customers, adding that it was also an ideal platform for Russian exporters and investors to see Vietnam as an attractive, safe and potential destination.

Vice President of Saint Petersburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry Elena Zheltukhina suggested that Vietnamese and Russian companies cooperate to develop joint tourist products in order to mutually attract tourists.
