Vietnamese airlines’ on-time performance ranks high

The on-time performance (OTP) of Vietnamese airlines in the first half of 2019 remained higher than the world average, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

The agency said it is a positive sign given that Vietnam’s aviation infrastructure has been overburdened.

CAAV data showed that Bamboo Airways, the newest airline in Vietnam, had the highest OTP at 93.8%, followed by VASCO at 93% and the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines at 89.1%.

The two low-cost airlines, Vietjet and Jetstar, recorded the respective on-time performance of 81.5% and 78.1%.

In the first six months of 2019, local carriers operated a total of 153,559 flights, up 2.4% year on year, of which 130,208 were on time, accounting for 84.8% of total flights.

Concerning the ratio of cancellations, VASCO led the pack at 1.7%, followed by Vietjet and Vietnam Airlines at 0.2% and 0.1% respectively.

Bamboo cancelled only two flights in the first half of 2019 while Jetstar record no cancellation during the period.
