The information was announced at the second working session of the Vietnam - Mexico Joint Committee on Economic, Trade and Investment Cooperation, held in Mexico City on July 9-10.
The event was co-chaired by Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai and Mexican Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade Luz María de la Mora.
Deputy Minister Hai highly valued the progress in bilateral trade relations between the two countries, emphasising that Mexico is the second largest trade partner of Vietnam in Latin America and Vietnam is the eighth largest partner of Mexico in the Asia-Pacific region.
He noted that Vietnam – Mexico two-way trade revenue reached US$3.35 billion in 2018, up 16% over the same period in 2017. Accordingly, Vietnam posted US$2.24 billion and US$1.11 billion worth of export and import revenues, respectively.
He also affirmed that the CPTPP is a valuable opportunity for both Vietnam and Mexico, particularly the products of Vietnam’s strength such as footwear, seafood, cashew nuts and wooden products.
For her part, Mexican Deputy Minister Luz Maria de la Mora has expressed his satisfaction with the positive cooperation in bilateral relations between the two countries over the past years, especially since the CPTPP took effect.
Under the agreement, Mexico will have more opportunities to export agricultural products, machines, automobiles and auto parts to Vietnam, said the Mexican representative.
At the session, the two Deputy Ministers signed the agreement document of the second working session of the Vietnam - Mexico Joint Committee on Economic, Trade and Investment Cooperation.
