The event was jointly held by the Lam Dong government, the Korean Ginseng Association and the Vietnamese Ginseng Company (VGC).

At the seminar, participants discussed the results of a pilot programme to grow ginseng in Lam Dong, cultivation techniques and the plan to expand the ginseng farming model, towards forming a high-tech ginseng farming area in the province.

Lam Dong Vice Chairman Pham S said that Lam Dong has favourable climate and soil conditions to grow many valuable medicinal plants such as the Bristly Anoectochilus orchid, the Himalayan yew, artichoke, dang sen and Vietnamese ginseng.

In recent years, many studies on Vietnamese ginseng have confirmed that it is a valuable species of ginseng.

In Lam Dong province, the growing of Vietnamese ginseng has been piloted in the past five years in sheltered ground at an altitude of 1,400 metres using new technologies, which has produced good yield with a high content of saponin.

The Vietnamese ginseng was first discovered in 1973 in the foot of Ngoc Linh Mountain in Kon Tum and Quang Nam provinces, hence the name Ngoc Linh ginseng. The plant was included in the list of national products in 2017.
