Retail and consumer services up 11.5% in first eight months

Vietnam’s total revenues for retail and consumer services in the first eight months of 2019 were estimated at VND3.2 quadrillion (US$137.6 billion), up 11.5% year on year, the General Statistics Office has announced.

The growth figure was lower than the 12.1% recorded during the same period of 2018 but higher than that of the years from 2015 to 2017.

Among them, sales of cultural and educational items went up 13.6%, food and foodstuffs up 13.6%, clothing items up 10.6%, household tools and appliances up 10.9%, and transport vehicles up 8.5%.

Revenue from accommodation and catering services was estimated at VND385.9 trillion (US$16.59 billion), up 9.8% from a year earlier.

During the same period, travel service revenues rose 12.1% to an estimated US$29.7 trillion (US$1.28 billion), with Binh Dinh province witnessing the largest revenue increase at 18.6%, followed by Thanh Hoa and Khanh Hoa provinces at 14.9% and 14.5% respectively.

Revenues of other services were estimated at VND355.1 trillion (US$15.27 billion), a year-on-year rise of 7%.
