Organised by the National Assembly Office, the two-day forum aims to provide NA agencies with updated information on Vietnam’s socio-economic situation in 2019, the impacts of various trade agreements, and forecasts and recommendations regarding Vietnam’s growth.

Speaking at the forum, Vice Chairman of the NA’s Economic Committee Nguyen Duc Kien said that Vietnam’s economic situation in the first nine months has been positive. Industry and agriculture recorded growth despite unfavourable factors, he noted.

Meanwhile, the macro economy remained stable and inflation was curbed at 2.5%, the lowest level in the past three years, he said, adding that exports increased significantly and the trade surplus reached a record of more than US$3.4 billion.

However, more should be done to achieve a growth rate of 6.8 to 6.9% this year and enhance the effectiveness of public investment disbursement.

Participants at the forum stressed the importance of overcoming obstacles to Vietnam’s development towards ensuring sustainable economic growth.

Some proposed that priority should be given to improving efficiency in the use of resources, addressing bottlenecks in restructuring agriculture, and facilitating the transition from processing industry to production associated with supporting businesses.
