He was speaking at conference held on September 30 to review a resolution on enhancing the performance of cooperatives in non-agriculture sectors issued by the Central Committee in 2002.
The Deputy PM stated that the review will help perfect the legal framework to promote the role of cooperatives in the new coming stage.
He said in the past 15 years, cooperatives have seen growth in a wide range of sectors, making a contribution to socio-economic development, building new rural areas, reducing poverty and improving the people’s living standards.
Such progress confirms that the Central Committee’s resolution is the right policy to support cooperatives to take off from the state of struggling.
However, he noted that the growth of cooperatives in general and non-agricultural cooperatives in particular is not proportional to their potential, adding that radical and long-term measures are needed to address the current weaknesses.
Deputy PM Hue urged local governments to formulate incentive policies to develop non-agriculture cooperatives that they have strengths in and regularly assess the performance of cooperatives in order promptly resolve difficulties facing them.
According to Chairman of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance Nguyen Ngoc Bao, non-agriculture cooperatives are aiming for annual growth of 8-15% until 2030.
