HCM City Innovation and Start-up Week opens

The 2019 Ho Chi Minh City Innovation, Startup and Entrepreneurship Week (WHISE 2019) was opened on October 18. This is the third consecutive year the event has been held by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the Finnish Embassy in Vietnam.

The event has attracted the participation of more than 150 innovation and start-up enterprises both from home and abroad in addition to thousands of science lovers.

A string of 30 events will take place during the week including seminars, start-up events, contests, and an award ceremony for organisations and individuals contributing to the innovative start-up ecosystem of Ho Chi Minh City.

Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology Nguyen Viet Dung said that, the city is determined to build a sustainable development model based on technology and innovation in order to maintain and promote the city’s socio-economic achievements.

He noted that WHISE is one of the important events to promote the innovative ecosystem of Ho Chi Minh City. The event is also an opportunity to review innovation and start-up activities in 2019 and to provide consultancy on policies in support of an innovative start-up ecosystem.

According to Finnish Ambassador Kari Kahiluoto, the event will conduct a deeper discussion on the scientific development in specific areas such as the state management, transportation, and education. In particular, the event will emphasise the role of Ho Chi Minh City in supporting start-up activities in the process of innovation.

He added that Finnish enterprises are willing to assist Ho Chi Minh City in start-up and innovation activities to help the city become a smart city in the future.
