Vietnam – RoK: Moving towards a green economy

The Environment Industry Cooperation Forum between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) took place in Hanoi, on October 24, as part of activities under the framework of the exhibition for environmental technology and equipment (ENVIROTEX 2019).

Co-organised by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE) and Korea Environmental Industry Association (KEIA), the event aims to share product information, technology and help seek partners.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Ngoc Sinh, VACNE's Chairman, said that in the context of global climate change and the Fourth Industrial Revolutionis taking place strongly, especially while Vietnam and the RoK moving towards a circular economy, a green economy.

Therefore, the forum is a practical event to help businesses of Vietnam and the RoK introduce cooperation opportunities for environmental projects in two countries. Based on the results of the forum, the RoK’s environmental association will have appropriate reports and schemes submitted to the RoK’s Government, to promote cooperation between enterprises in the field of environmental technology in the Vietnamese market.

According to Dr. Duong Thanh An, Deputy Director General of the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment, currently, environmental technology and greening industries are of great interest to Vietnam, the RoK and many other countries. Vietnam has issued and is effectively implementing many national programmes and strategies in this field, such as: National target programme on energy saving; Cleaner Production Strategy in industry; Action plans to promote sustainable production and consumption.

The forum is expected to continue to create new cooperation opportunities for businesses from Vietnam and the RoK to contribute more to the cause of environmental protection, green and sustainable economic development, which two countries are striving.

The event focuses on key issues such as: Promoting enterprises to protect the environment towards a circular economy; Situation of daily-life solid waste management in Hanoi city; the Environmental Incident Response Centre (VACNE) and the desire to cooperate with foreign businesses; Prospects of application of solid waste treatment and recycling technologies of the RoK in Vietnam.

On the sidelines of the Forum, the VACNE, the KEIA, the RoK’s Techno Bio Company and the Environmental Incident Response Centre signed a MoU on promoting the application of environmentally friendly equipment and technology in both Vietnam and the RoK; creating conditions for delegates in exchanging directly at the RoK’s environment association's booths.
