The investment in the Vinh Tuy Bridge project (phase two) aims to complete the entire belt road no. 2 in the capital city, to enhance the circulation capacity between the two sides of the Red River and to meet the growing transport demand between the centre of Hanoi and the city’s northern and northeastern areas.

In addition, it also seeks to improve traffic safety and connections between the two coasts of the Red River and to facilitate socio-economic development of the districts of Hai Ba Trung and Long Bien in particular and of Hanoi as a whole, thus creating a premise for the formation of a series of urban areas in northern Hanoi and gradually completing the capital’s transport infrastructure system according to the planning.

Phase two of the Vinh Tuy Bridge project will feature the construction of a 19.25m wide and 3.5km long bridge parallel to the current Vinh Tuy Bridge, with the same scale and design.

The reinforced and prestressed concrete bridge will meet the streets of Tran Quang Khai, Nguyen Khoai and Minh Khai in Hai Ba Trung District on one end, and intersects with Long Bien district’s Long Bien and Thach Ban Streets on the other end, consisting of four lanes – two for motor vehicles, one for buses and one for pedestrians.

Other categories under phase two include the technical infrastructure, lighting and traffic organisation.
