HortEx Vietnam 2020 kicks off

HortEx Vietnam 2020 – the specialised exhibition and conference for Horticultural and Floricultural Production and Processing Technology in Vietnam, kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City, on February 26.

Covering an area of over 2,200 square metres, the HortEx Vietnam 2020 attracts the participation of 150 businesses from 24 countries and territories including Vietnam, Netherlands, Spain, Israel, France, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Greece, New Zealand, the US, Australia and Thailand.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Hong Son, Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences, said that vegetables, flowers and fruits were an important group of products in the restructuring project of Vietnam's agriculture sector. Over the past years, the production scale, productivity and output of vegetables, flowers and fruits have increased on average over 5% per year. In particular, the export value of the group of vegetables, flowers and fruits of Vietnam has increased by 30% in a short space of time.

However, Vietnam's vegetable, flower and fruit industry is also facing many challenges such as limited investment, lack of production and processing technology, and unstable consumption markets.

According to Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association shared, in the context of exporting vegetables, flowers and fruits are facing many disadvantages, HortEx Vietnam 2020 is expected to be a forum for connecting trade and finding effective markets for vegetable, flower and fruit products of Vietnam. This is also an opportunity for management agencies, research institutes and businesses to exchange information on investment, update production technology, share experiences on production, trade and product trade cooperation.

In addition to displaying and introducing products, HortEx Vietnam 2020 also organises many seminars updated on developments and trends of the market, technology in the field of vegetables, flowers, fruits.

The exhibition will take place until the end of February 28.
