Aquaculture output up 3.7% in two months

Aquaculture output in the first two months of this year hit 513,600 tonnes, up 3.7% over the same time last year, according to the Directorate of Fisheries under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

In February alone, aquaculture output yielded 245,000 tonnes, an increase of 3.3% against the same period of 2019.

In the first two months, 183,500 tonnes of tra fish was produced, a year-on-year surge of 3.6% while shrimp output was about 61,100 tonnes nationwide, an increase of 3.7%.

The largest tra fish raising localities are An Giang, with 53,100 tonnes and Dong Thap, with total output of nearly 55,700 tonnes.

In the same period, aquatic catch was estimated at about 504,000 tonnes, up 3.4% year-on-year. The volume includes 476,000 tonnes of seafood, rises of 3.3%.

The country earned some US$ 932 million from the export of aquatic products in the first two months of 2020, with US$ 440 million made in February in particular.
