NDO – The Ministry of Transport has approved a project on the upgrade of a section of National Highway No. 1, connecting Nga Bay town in Hau Giang province with Chau Thanh district in Soc Trang province.

The 20-km section is designed to have a speed limit of 80 km per hour and a width of 20 m.

In addition, the upgrade project will also expand the size of five bridges to ensure that they will match the upgraded road.

The project has total investment capital of over VND1.68 trillion (US$72.16 million) sourced from the State budget. It is scheduled for completion in 2022.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the upgraded section is expected to meet the increasing transport demand, reduce traffic accidents, and serve socio-economic development in Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces and the Mekong Delta region at large.

The project will also contribute to completing the entire National Highway 1 project from Hanoi to Cau Mau as approved.
