Currently, the enterprises under the Vietnam Food Association (VFA) still has 1.9 million tonnes of rice in reserve. Meanwhile, the country expects to harvest 11 million tonnes in the upcoming summer-autumn crop. Farmers in the Mekong River Delta region in particular have sowed 700,000 hectares.
According to Director of Long An Provincial Department of Industry and Trade Le Minh Duc, the supply of rice is abundant, so there is now an opportunity for the country to expand the rice export markets.
Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People’s Committee, Truong Quang Hoai Nam, also proposed to allow enterprises to continue to open customs declarations, giving special priority to those that opened in March but the rice has yet to be exported.
The enterprises also asked the MoIT, the Ministry of Finance, and the General Department of Vietnam Customs to quickly coordinate together to clear the rice exports stuck at ports that have resulted in many costs for them.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh emphasised that the Ministry will propose the adjustment of the rice export regulations to the Government.
