Due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, Vietnam's plan to ship its first batch of fresh lychee to Japan can't be deployed at the end of May.

According to the MIT, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) recently announced that it could not send Japanese experts to Vietnam to inspect and recognise the disinfection treatment systems of fresh lychee due to the impact of the pandemic.

The MIT said it would continue to work closely with the relevant agencies and localities of both countries to find solutions and remove difficulties for Vietnam’s fresh lychee exports to Japan.

In late 2019, Japan officially announced that it would open the door for Vietnamese lychees following more than five years of negotiations between the Vietnamese Plant Protection Department and the MAFF.
