NDO – Politburo member and head of the Party Central Committee's Economic Commission Nguyen Van Binhchaired a conference on Can Tho City's Sustainable Development to 2030, with a vision to 2045.

After 15 years of implementing Politburo Resolution 45 on building and developing Can Tho city during the period of national industrialisation and modernisation, Can Tho City has achieved many important outcomes.

In the 2005-2019 period, the economic growth rate of Can Tho City reached over 7.2%, higher than the national average; per capita income reached more than VND88 million, a sevenfold increase compared to 2005.

However, in the development process, Can Tho City still suffers from a number of limitations such as low investment resources, not meeting development requirements, transport infrastructure still not being fully synchronised; limited quality of human resources becoming a bottleneck in developing regional links andagricultural production not yet achieving full modernisation.

Speaking at the conference, Politburo member Binh urged the city authorities to reposition the central role of Mekong Delta city in the context of the changing socio-economic conditions and the rapid impacts of climate change.

A mechanism for regional linkage between Can Tho and the Mekong Delta and other regions throughout the country should also be clarified, while at the same timemore attention should be paid to improving the quality of human resources to meet the city's developmentalrequirements in the near future, he added.
