In recent years, due to unstable consumption demand, coconut prices have been continuously fluctuating, causing many difficulties for farmers.

In 2018, the Ben Tre Import and Export Joint Stock Company (Betrimex) built a 327-hectare organic coconut material area with the participation of 348 households in Dai Phuoc commune, Cang Long district and another 150-hectare area in Long Duc commune, Tra Vinh city.

Organic coconut growing models are being developed with close coordination among the State, scientists, enterprises and farmers.

In particular, the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has mobilised capital from a small and medium enterprises development project to hire technical experts to guide farmers during the process of caring and using fertilisers in accordance with organicpractices; while at the same time, connect with businesses to support the realisation of standards for raw material areas.

As a result, the organic coconut material area built by Betrimex has been recognised to meet three international standards, including Europe - EU, US - USDA and Japan - JAS.

Following Betrimex, the Asia Coconut Processing Joint Stock Company has also linked with more than 200 households in Tan Hoa commune, Tieu Can district to plant more than 220 hectares of organic coconut. Thisarea was recognised as having met two international standards, Europe. - EU and US - USDA earlier this year.

This is also the second organic coconut material area in Tra Vinh province to meet international standards.

In the near future, Tra Vinh will continue to popularise themodel of organic coconut material areas in other localities in the province.
