The economy of Quang Ninh Province grew by an estimated 5.7% in the first half of the year, making it one of the fastest-growing localities in Vietnam amid the impacts of the coronavirus outbreak.

The figure was released by the provincial government at a conference on public investment on September 8.

In the first eight months of 2020, Quang Ninh collected government revenue of over VND32.3 trillion (nearly US$1.4 billion), equivalent to two thirds of the annual target, with domestic revenue accounting for 72.7%.

Such positive results were attributed to the province’s continued efforts to make the business environment more friendly and transparent.

However, there remain some drawbacks regarding public investment, especially the slow rate of disbursement, which is disproportionate to the revenue.

To address this issue, the provincial government has requested the authorities concerned to resolutely halt slow-growing projects and transfer funds to key infrastructure projects and those which are highly likely to be completed in 2020.

To date Quang Ninh Province has maintained proactive control of the coronavirus outbreak while effectively fulfilling the task of receiving Vietnamese nationals and foreign experts through Van Don International Airport.
