The event brought together government and business leaders of the two countries to discuss measures to boost trade, expand investment and open up new opportunities to promote the post-COVID-19 economic recovery in Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, VCCI Chairman Vu Tien Loc affirmed that US companies’ investment and business projects have been playing an increasingly important role in Vietnam’s development, helping the country participate further in global supply chains.

Amidst the current complicated evolution of the pandemic, Vietnamese and US enterprises should be more creative, proactive and united to overcome difficulties and seize opportunities brought about by the digital technology revolution in order to drive sustainable development, especially in the key potential areas of cooperation, such as renewable energy, clean and sustainable energy, infrastructural development, banking and finance, education and training, tourism, technology, and high-tech agriculture, he said.

For his part, former US Secretary of State and former Massachusetts senator John Kerry emphasised the significant role played by US businesses operating in Vietnam in the process of normalising relations between the two countries.

In the future, Vietnam will be a technology destination in the world, he said, voicing his belief that the Fulbirght University Vietnam in particular and the Vietnamese education system in general will serve a central role in the country’s technological and technical development process.

At the meeting, delegates discussed a number of issues, including promoting predictable and sustainable investment policies, development and innovation through the digital economy, some key needs in terms of Vietnam’s energy development, and cooperation towards the goal of helping Vietnamese firms reach their global trade potential.
