Vietnam Card Day 2020 launched in Hanoi

Vietnam Card Day 2020, the first of its kind, was announced in Hanoi on October 29 under the theme “Arousing internal power from the COVID-19 pandemic and promoting the development of non-cash payments”.

The initiative has been introduced by Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper to implement the Government’s project on promoting non-cash payments to contribute to supporting business and production activity, containing the disease and facilitating the rebound of the economy.

The Vietnam Card Day 2020 programme will begin with a shopping festival at Hanoi University of Science and Technology’s stadium on November 7-8 and a super promotion week (Mega Sale) on November 9-15. Customers will receive many attractive promotional offers and discounts when doing payments by bank card at commercial and online booths at these two events.

Addressing the announcement ceremony, Pham Tien Dung, Director of the Payment Department under the State Bank of Vietnam, stated that Vietnam Card Day 2020 will enable and inspire young people in Vietnam to access and experience modern and convenient banking and payment services, thus forming a habit of using card payments in particular and non-cash payments in general”.

Nguyen Quang Hung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (Napas), said Napas and partners have supported banks to issue more than 10,000 contactless prepaid cards, each having VND50,000, as gifts for customers.

The series of events within the framework of Vietnam Card Day 2020 aim to promote non-cash payments and card payments, contributing to the restoration of business activities in the new normal when Vietnam is gradually controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.
