The contractors include Lung Lo Construction Corporation, Truong Son Construction Corporation, Song Da Corporation, Vinaconex, and LILAMA 10.

The extension, which includes two turbines with a combined capacity of 360 megawatts, will cost an estimated VND6.4 trillion (US$277.7 million).

The construction and installation package undertaken by the five contractors has a total value of VND2.365 trillion (US$102.6 million), a major component which decides the progress of the entire extension project.

Construction is expected to commence in the second quarter of 2021, with the entire project scheduled for completion by the end of 2024.

Once completed, the extension will produce about 233 million kWh each year, helping to increase the power supply capacity of the southern region, especially during heavy-load hours.

The Ialy hydropower plant currently has four turbines with a total capacity of 720 megawatts.
