Consignments below EUR6,000 destined for the UK entitled to origin self-certification

Any exporter is allowed to self-certify the origin of export and import shipments with a value less than EUR6,000 between Vietnam and the United Kingdom (UK) and Northern Ireland from July 26, 2021.

Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien has signed Circular No.02/2021/TT-BCT on the rules of origin of goods under the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland (UKVFTA).

The Circular includes 5 chapters and 42 articles in addition to eight appendices, which will take effect from July 26, 2021.

Under the agreement, the proof of origin can be self-certified by any exporter for consignments valued at less than EUR6,000 to the UK and Northern Ireland.

Regarding consignments over EUR6,000, the proof of origin will be issued by organisations authorised by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Meanwhile, shipments imported to Vietnam worth less than EUR6,000 are entitled to origin self-certification and proof of origin for shipments of over EUR6,000 can only be self-certified by qualified UK exporters.
