International conference discusses Vietnam’s active integration and sustainable development

The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences in coordination with the Vietnam National University Hanoi, held its sixth international conference on Vietnamese studies themed ‘Vietnam’s Active Integration and Sustainable Development’ on October 28-29 utilising both online and offline platforms.

The event brought together more than 500 Vietnamese delegates and over 100 international guests who submitted up to 400 scientific papers and reports on various topics.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam asked scientists to continue working to clarify the position and role of culture in facilitating sustainable development and the national construction and defence.

He also requested that Vietnamese studies also need to pay more attention to social issues, especially in the context of COVID-19, cyberspace and the rise of non-traditional security threats, in order to make prediction and suggest solutions to address arising social problems and promote a great national unity bloc.

According to President Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, Associate Professor Dr. Bui Nhat Quang stressed that Vietnamese studies play a particularly important role in the country’s development process as it studies the past, the present and the future of the nation while connecting Vietnam within the region and the rest of the world.

The conference offered an opportunity to introduce international friends to Vietnam’s culture as well as the country’s development achievements.

For his part, President of Vietnam National University – Hanoi, Prof. Dr. Le Quan hailed that throughout its editions, the conference has helped to advertise the image of Vietnam around the globe.

The outcomes of the conference have also contributed to the policymaking in the country, thus facilitating the national development and international integration process.

The participants’ discussions at this year’s conference focused on diversified contents relating to different fields and sectors of social sciences and humanities, including international and regional issues; ideology and politics; ethnicity and religion; education, training and human development.

They also touched upon topics of linguistics and literature, history, archaeology, Sino-Nom, and cultural studies, among others.
