National Drama Festival 2021 kicks off

The National Drama Festival 2021, organised by the Department of Performing Arts in collaboration with the Vietnam Stage Artists' Association, the Department of Culture and Sports of Hai Phong City, opened at Thang Tam (August) Theatre, Hai Phong City, on the evening of November 5.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism affirmed that taking place in the atmosphere of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam's theatre - an art form always under the breath of life, this drama festival is an opportunity for artists to showcase their talents as well as their desire to create, dedicate, and nurture the fire of passion for the profession that many generations of senior artists have built.

The Deputy Minister suggested that the artists attending the festival bring their talents to the best performance of their artistic labours in recent years. “Our country is being heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and is gradually recovering to bring life back to a new normal. In recent years, the culture, sports and tourism industry in general and artists and writers have always made great efforts and overcome difficulties to join hands to create "spiritual vaccines" together with the people of the country to overcome difficulties caused by the pandemic. Organising the National Drama Festival 2021 is also an activity expressing the desire to revive the stage after the Covid-19 pandemic.", he said.

The festival attracts more than 600 artists and actors from 14 central and local art units to participate with 20 special plays. The Art Council includes Chairman of the Council - People's Artist Tran Minh Ngoc, and members: Excellent Artist Le Chuc; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Thai; People's Artist Le Huy Quang; playwright Le Quy Hien; People's Artist Tran Thi Minh Hoa; Colonel, Excellent Teacher, musician Nguyen Xuan Thuy.

Right after the opening part was a performance for the festival's opening competition called "Skyline" performed by Hai Phong Drama Troupe.

The festival is expected to last until November 16.
