Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts Awards 2020 honours 17 outstanding works

Seventeen outstanding works were honoured at the Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts Awards 2020 during a ceremony held in Hanoi, on November 22.

The ceremony was attended by Politburo member, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council and Director of Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Nguyen Xuan Thang; Secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Communications and Education Nguyen Trong Nghia; and members of the Party Central Committee: Lai Xuan Mon (Standing Deputy Head of the PCC’s Commission for Communications and Education), Lam Thi Phuong Thanh (Deputy Chief of Office of the Party Central Committee) and Do Tien Sy (General Director of Voice of Vietnam Radio).

Politburo member, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council and Director of Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Nguyen Xuan Thang delivered a speech.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Xuan Thang affirmed that the field of theory and criticism of literature and art is both science and art. In recent times, the field has made important developments, meeting the needs of the people's literary, artistic and spiritual lives.

The Party and State have issued many policies to promote the development and spread of the field of critical theory, helping to affirm the role, responsibility, position and prestige in the country's literature and art.

Representative from Department of Culture - Arts from Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper receives Award.

Nguyen Xuan Thang noted that, in order to promote the achievements and further improve the role and position in literary and social life, the Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts Council needs to closely coordinate with agencies and units to promote propaganda and discover and honour good works, while researchers need to continue to overcome difficulties, innovate, and stick to the Party's line of cultural and artistic innovation, towards long-term and strong development.

From a total of 95 works (including: 46 books, 32 articles and 17 radio programmes) submitted by agencies and units for consideration and award, the Council for Theory and Criticism of Chinese Literature and Art. The Central Committee has chosen to award 17 outstanding works.

Poet Huu Thinh's collection of essays and criticisms titled "Ben Van va Song" (Publishing House of the Writers' Association) is the only work to have received an A prize. The organising board also awarded six B prizes and 10 C prizes.

At the ceremony, the Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts Council also honoured 13 agencies and units that have published many works, contributing to the development of the field of theory and criticism of literature and arts in 2020, including the Representative from Department of Culture - Arts from Nhan Dan Newspaper.
