Localities encourage and develop a reading culture within the community

The People's Committee of the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum held the opening ceremony of the first Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in Kon Tum with the theme “Books - the Mission of Developing Reading Culture” on April 19.

The event aimed to honour the Vietnam Book Day and Reading Culture on April 21, affirming the role, position and importance of books in improving knowledge and skills, developing thinking, educating and training people; encouraging and developing the reading movement in the community, creating a favourable reading environment; forming reading habits in families, schools, agencies and organisations, contributing to building a learning society.

Speaking at the event, the Director of the provincial Department of Information and Communications Tran Van Thu affirmed that the Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day is a cultural activity with a very practical significance in social life and will be held annually in the province, starting in 2022.

Besides activities to honour the Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day, the People’s Committee of Kon Tum province also organised many cultural and artistic activities such as stall dancing, and a gong dance, and launched a book introduction contest.

The event is scheduled to run until April 21.

Similar events were also held on the same day in Ninh Thuan, Dong Thap, and Ben Tre provinces.
