Outstanding works on folklore honoured

Nhan Dan – Hang Trong-Hanoi Folk Paintings by Phan Ngoc Khue won first prize at an awards ceremony for works on folklore held by the Association of Vietnamese Folklorists (AVF) this morning in Hanoi.

This year, folklorists presented prizes to the 64 best works, which were selected from 84 entries by folk researchers from across the country. Awarded were one first prize, 10 second prizes, 32 third prizes, 18 consolation prizes and three gifts.

Speaking at the ceremony, AVF Chairman To Ngoc Thanh said that the entries focused on five topics: philology and folklore theory, customs and tradition, performing arts, graphic depiction, and architecture-folk knowledge. There were typical works such as Hang Trong-Hanoi Folk Paintings by Phan Ngoc Khue, Introduction to Some Issues on Cham Culture by Sakaya and Water Symbol from Culture to Folk Literature of the Thai Ethnic Minority People in the Northwest of Vietnam by Dang Thi Oanh, among others.

On the occasion, the AVF granted the 'Folk artisans' title and the 'For the cause of folklore' insignia to eight artisans who practise and teach the folk musical instruments of the Muong ethnic minority people, genres of folk singing, sewing and embroidery.
