The information was announced at a press conference held in Hanoi on July 5.

Top 40 contestants from the qualification round will enter the region’s final round, held from July 11 to 17 in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province, where the beauties will receive professional training from experts and take part in activities to promote Ha Long’s culture and tourism.

Finalists from the north will join the 18 best candidates from the south to vie for the crown at a grand finale scheduled for mid-August in Ho Chi Minh City.

New for this year, each finalist from the two regions will carry out a charity project. Their activities will be recorded and broadcast on TV for the public. The winner of the best project will be promoted to the top five.

Miss Vietnam 2016 will be awarded VND 500 million (US$22,400) in cash and a VND 2.2 billion (US$98,600) crown, which was handcrafted from 63 pearls and 3,260 sapphires.

The first and second runners-up of the pageant will receive VND 300 million (US$13,450) and VND 200 million (US$8,950), respectively.

Beside sub-awards such as Miss Talent, Miss Humanity, Miss Beach, Miss Ao Dai (Vietnamese traditional dress) and Miss Beautiful Face, the contest will also honour Miss Beautiful Hair and Miss Party Dress.

Initiated in 1988 by Tien Phong newspaper, Miss Vietnam is held biennially and is open for single Vietnamese women aged between 18 and 27. It aims to honour the spiritual and intellectual beauty of talented Vietnamese women.
