In attendance at the event were Vice President in-charge and Secretary General of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Don Tuan Phong, Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Mohd Zamruni Bin Khalid and his wife.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice President in-charge of the VUFO Phong expressed his appreciation for the organisation of the art exchange programme.

He said that the performance of the art troupe from Malaysia will contribute to enhancing the friendship between the two countries, as well as the mutual understanding between the two peoples.

The programme featured 13 traditional songs and dances of Vietnam and Malaysia, introducing the unique cultural features of Malaysia to Vietnamese audiences and vice versa.

Vietnam and Malaysia have continuously developed their special friendship and comprehensive cooperation over the past few years. Malaysia is currently the seventh largest trade partner and investor of Vietnam, with a two-way trade turnover of US$8.4 billion in 2016 and total investment of US$12 billion as of the end of May 2017.

Their cooperation in the fields of culture, sports, tourism and labour between the two nations has been also expanded. Senior leaders of the two countries have regularly paid working visit to each other, creating a prerequisite for the establishment of a strategic partnership between Vietnam and Malaysia, established in 2015.

Ambassador Mohd Zamruni Bin Khalid affirmed that the programme is one of the activities to realise the plan for strategic cooperation between the two countries, as well as contributing to the development of a harmonised, people-centred and people-oriented ASEAN.
