Young art talents in 2017

In the Vietnamese performing arts scene in 2017, there is no denying the artistic effort of many artists. Particularly in the field of music and cinema, there are a number of young faces who made their art hallmark.

Luu Duc Anh - a piano talent

Luu Duc Anh started learning to play the piano at a young age at the Vietnam National Academy of Music (VNAM). After finishing an intermediate course at the Vietnam Music Academy, Duc Anh received his university degree and a master’s degree with a high distinction at the Royal Conservatory of Liège – Belgium. He won the first prize at the Leopold Godowsky International Piano Contest in Poland in 2014, and the first prize at the Andrée Charlier contest in Belgium in 2015. Notably, in 2017, he won the first prize at the 6th International Music Competition in Stockholm, Sweden, in May and the special prize at the Festival et Concours international de Piano à Collioure in France, in June. For the festival in France, Duc Anh competed against over 100 candidates who were invited to perform. He was also the only representative of Asia among the nine young international artists to receive this honour. Currently, he is studying a postgraduate studies major at the Malmö Academy of Music in Sweden, however Duc Anh is always trying to bring classical music to Vietnam. It is said that what he does is not only overcome the mental pressure to practice but also the explosion of a musical talent entering maturity.

Bao Thanh - an impressive actress

2017 marked the strong breakthrough of Vietnamese Television serials with many blockbuster TV serials attracting the attention of the audience, such as ‘Song Chung Voi Me Chong’ (Living with my Mother-in-Law), and ‘Nguoi Phan Xu’ (The Arbitrator). Participating in both of these hit TV films, with persuasive acting, the name ‘Bao Thanh’ shone through.

Born into a family in Bac Giang province with a rich tradition in art, the 1990-born girl was charmed with cinema from quite an early age. Prior to acting in the film ‘Song Chung Voi Me Chong’, she won a number of large and small awards for her expertise, such as 'Best Supporting Actress' at the 13th Vietnam Film Festival, and ‘Best Actress’ in the TV series category at the 2014 Golden Kite Awards. With a good appearance and progress after each role, Bao Thanh is more and more highly appreciated and has received the favor of many famous directors. After the great success of the past year, the actress affirmed that she will continue to embark on new film projects, so that audiences always see Bao Thanh, an actress, with diverse roles.

Noo Phuoc Thinh – a brilliant vocalist of Vietnamese pop music

Although not possessing skillful vocal techniques Noo Phuoc Thinh convergences the full characteristics of an entertainment star. He has the voice of many internal forces, full of emotions, a handsome face, humorous personality, and especially hard artistic work. These factors have also made Noo Phuoc Thinh one of the favorite singers of the year. In 2016, he won the top prize of The Remix - a TV reality EDM (electronic dance music) programme, and the Best Vietnamese artist in Asia by Mnet Asian Music Arwards (Korea). In 2017, he continued to impress the audience with many memorable musical activities. Noo Phuoc Thinh received the Singer of the Year Award - the most coveted item in the 2017 Award. In October 2017, the V-pop star stirred up the Vietnamese music “village” with the MV 'Cham ke tim anh mot chut thoi' (Touch my heart a little bit)

Kaity Nguyen – a new face of cinema

Kaity Nguyen, real name Nguyen Ngoc Binh, is an 18-year-old Vietnamese – American girl. In 2017, she was one of the young people to gain impressive artistic accomplishments. With her first role in the film ‘Em chua 18’ (I am not 18 yet), which is the highest-grossing Vietnamese movie to date, Kaity Nguyen surpassed many famous faces, such as Minh Hang and Lan Ngoc, to be named “Best Actress” at the 20th Vietnam Film Festival which took place in November last year. The teenage actress was highly praised for her acting ability as well as her professionalism and devotion. According to experts, Kaity Nguyen has the natural qualities of an actor. Director Le Thanh Son has compared her to a "bright pearl", if her skills are honed further she will certainly become a successful actress in the next generation of Vietnamese cinema. However, Kaity Nguyen needs to make more efforts in the future to prove her success is not just "lucky".
