Vietnam attends 42nd session of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee

Dang Thi Bich Lien, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Vice Chairwoman of Vietnam’s National UNESCO Committee, is leading a Vietnamese delegation to participate in the 42nd session of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee (WHC) in Manama, Bahrain, from June 24 to July 1.

The Vietnamese delegates attended the opening ceremony of the WHC meeting on June 24, which also saw the presence of Crown Prince of Bahrain, Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, UNESCO Director General, Audrey Azoulay, Chairman of UNESCO’s Executive Board, Lee Byong-hyun, and the Chair of the 42nd WHC session, Sheikha Mai Bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa.

During her stay in Bahrain, Deputy Minister, Dang Thi Bich Lien, had separate meetings and working sessions with UNESCO Director-General, Audrey Azoulay, and Chairman of UNESCO’s Executive Board, Lee Byong-hyun, among others.

The week-long session will focus discussion on a number of important issues related to the conservation and promotion of world heritage values, such as the examination of member countries’ reports on the preservation and promotion of heritage values, the recognition of new world heritages, the announcement of world heritages to be included in the list of heritages in need of urgent protection, and a report on the use of budget at the WHC.
