As part of the visit to Vietnam by External Affairs Minister of India, H.E. Smt. Sushma Swaraj, the event was held on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji, contributing to enhancing the Indian cultural footprint in Vietnam.
Speaking at the ceremony, India’s External Affairs Minister H.E. Smt. Sushma Swaraj highlighted the long standing traditional friendship between Vietnam and India. “India and Vietnam’s relations are not only the relations established after India’s independence, these relations are centuries old and are cultural, historical and also commercial”, she said.

According to Indian Ambassador to Vietnam, Parvathaneni Harish, the bilateral trade between the two countries has increased from US$7.8 billion in 2015-2016 to US$12.8 billion in 2017-2018, an increase of 66%. The last few years have seen significant strengthening in the defence and security cooperation and it is an important pillar of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
In addition, an archaeological survey of India is actively contributing to the conservation and preservation of our joint cultural heritage at the world heritage site of My Son, he added.
On the occasion, the International Centre for Cultural Studies (ICCS) and the My Son World Heritage site Management Board handed over a MOU between two sides.
