From the early morning, thousands of locales and visitors joined a palanquin procession, which started from temples and shrines of 12 wards and communes in Sam Son city, and ended at Doc Cuoc Temple.

The participants then joined a cake making contest, which saw the competition of 12 teams. Every step of the cooking process has to be done manually, from steaming beans, pounding rice, wrapping cakes, and making fire.

The best cakes were chosen as offerings to the god of Doc Cuoc temple, while the others were delivered to locals and visitors as blessing gifts for them.

The festival is held annually on the twelfth day of the fifth lunar month to pray for favourable weather conditions, plentiful crops, successful fishing, peace and prosperity.

It also aims to promote the traditional practice and unique culture of Sam Son city to visitors, thus contributing to boosting local tourism.
