More than 100 delegates operating in the field of film production attended the launching ceremony.

Former director of the Vietnam Cinema Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ngo Phuong Lan was elected Chairwoman of the association.

She said the Vietnamese cinema industry has developed strongly in recent years, but the rate of foreign movies remains big.

Meanwhile, made-in-Vietnam films have been thriving in both quality and quantity, but only a handful gain high revenues, she added.

If legitimate rights are not protected and there is no favourable mechanism, Vietnamese film producers will even go bankrupt, she warned.

Therefore, the establishment of the association aims to protect and support local film producers and businesses to boost the development of the Vietnamese cinema industry, she affirmed.

It also creates opportunities to expand international cooperation, contributing to promoting the image of Vietnamese land, people and traditional cultures through movies.

The association is considered a social – occupational organisation operating under the management of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
