Nominees for Bui Xuan Phai Awards announced

The Vietnam News Agency's daily The Thao & Van Hoa (Culture & Sport) newspaper, on August 5, announced the list of nominations for the 12th Bui Xuan Phai - For Love of Hanoi Awards 2019.

The awards, with categories such as Grand Prize; Idea Prize; Job Prize and Work Prize, will be given to people who have completed excellent research and work focusing on Hanoi.

Between September 2018 and July 2019, a list of more than 40 individuals, works, ideas and activities meeting the awards’ criteria have been completed for submission to the judges’ council.

Chairman of the jury, poet Bang Viet said: an interesting highlight on this year's nomination is nostalgia.

Accordingly, there are three nominations for the Work Prize. They are three books entitled “Hanoi mot thoi hat” by Nguyen Truong Quy, which introduces Hanoi’s lifestyle in the 1947-1954 period through Doan Chuan’s music; “Kim Lien mot thuo” by Vu Cong Chien – a memory of Hanoi’s apartments in the past; and “Hanoi quan xa pho Phuong” by Uong Trieu, which use words to depict the capital city’s cuisine.

Meanwhile, in the category of Idea Prize, three nominations include the determination to "revive" To Lich river of Hanoi authorities and communities; the construction of the Hanoi F1 racetrack and the hosting of the race on April, 2020; and the training and research project "New look for Hanoi's traditional market" with the participation of architect Steve Davies.

The organising board announced three nominations in the category of Job Prize, including Hanoi Urban Sketch Group with activities to preserve Hanoi memories via painting; activities of Hanoi city and the whole community to affirm its position and promote the image of Hanoi - the city for peace; efforts to restore the name of the "Hanoi Post Office" building at Hoan Kiem Lake.

The only nomination for and also the winner of the Grand Prize is kept secret. The prize is the most important award granted to an individual who has devoted his or her life to the development of Hanoi and has a career that is strongly connected to the capital.

The Bui Xuan Phai – For the Love of Ha Noi Awards is expected to be announces at the end of August 2019.
