Late president’s relics help spread Ho Chi Minh’s values, ideas and morals: Deputy PM

The conservation and promotion of the President Ho Chi Minh Monument in the Hanoi-based Presidential Palace has contributed to the spreading of the late president’s values, ideas and morals, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has said.

The senior government official was speaking during a seminar held in Hanoi on September 12 to discuss results in the conservation and promotion of the relics dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh located in the Presidential Palace over the last five decades.

Speaking at the conference, on behalf of the Government, Deputy PM Dam expressed his gratitude to the staff of the relics who have collected artefacts and documents related to the beloved president to spread Ho Chi Minh's ideological and moral values during the past 50 years with professionalism and the upmost respect for Uncle Ho.

He emphasised the whole nation is on a journey to make Vietnam richer and stronger, on par with the powers across the world as President Ho Chi Minh desired. According to Dam, in order to close the gap with other countries in the world, all the people of Vietnam should make more effort and show their responsibility to the nation, making the image of Vietnam and Uncle Ho increasingly shine in the hearts of the people, so that every citizen truly takes pride in the mighty past and in the results achieved today to make more achievements in the future.

According to the head of the relics, Nguyen Van Cong, the area is a special national monument where Uncle Ho lived, worked, convalesced and took his last breath during 1954-1969. After Uncle Ho's passing away, the Party and State decided to preserve the long-term and intact manner the residence and workplace of Uncle Ho at the Presidential Palace, while welcoming domestic and international visitors to the relics to study and learn about his life, career, ideas, moral examples and style.

There are more than 1,470 artefacts from a total of nearly 4,000 documents and exhibits in the relic are on display and are always protected and preserved intact as when Uncle was alive. Since 1970, the President Ho Chi Minh Monument has served over 80 million visitors, including international visitors from more than 160 countries and territories around the world. In the first eight months of 2019, the site welcomed over two million visitors.

At the conference, over 40 reports were presented, addressing profound and suggestive issues, focusing on outstanding achievements after more than 50 years of preserving and promoting the value of President Ho Chi Minh’s heritage in the relic area, the actual situation of the long-term preservation of documents and exhibits and solutions to promote the value of the relics in the new period.

Following the seminar, Deputy PM Dam joined delegates to cut the ribbon to open an exhibition on the theme of 50 years of conservation and promotion of the Ho Chi Minh Presidential Monument in the Presidential Palace. The exhibition showcases 200 documentary photos of memorable milestones from when President Ho Chi Minh started to stay and work in the relic area until his passing away (1954-1969), as well as the formation, conservation and promotion of the value of the relic area since 1969.
