Horse race highlights Northwest region’s beauty

A horse race of the Northwest region officially opened at Sun World Fansipan Legend tourist site in Sapa Town, the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai, on July 18.

The race conquered visitors with images imbued with the Northwest region’s identity as expressed by 30 riders and horses from the districts of Bac Ha and Si Ma Cai in Lao Cai province and three other districts from Son La, Lai Chau and Tuyen Quang.

This year’s tournament was held on the largest scale ever, with double the number of contestants and participating localities than before. Of the participants, many are “stars” from the annual Bac Ha traditional horse race.

The tournament will take place in a knockout format with the qualifiers for A and B Group on July 18, 20 and 22.

The semi-final round will be held on July 24, while the finals are scheduled for July 26.

The parades of the cavalries

In addition to exciting races, visitors will have the chance to enjoy the parades of the cavalry team with crossbows in hand which will reproduce the heroic atmosphere of the Northwest region in the past.

The horse race is considered as one of unique tourism products to impress visitors on the image of “Lao Cai – a safe and attractive destination”, contributing to helping the provincial sector recover after Covid-19 epidemic.
