UNESCO launches painting contest on Hanoi

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in Vietnam launched a painting contest titled “Hanoi is…” on August 6, calling on young artists to jointly promote the title “Hanoi - Creative city", recognised by UNESCO in 2019, through illustrations about Hanoi.

Co-organised by UNESCO, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts Studies (VICAS), and the Vietnam Local Artist Group (VLAG), the one-month contest will run from August 6 to September 9, 2021.

The contest is within the framework of the Hanoi Rethink project initiated by UNESCO, UN-Habitat and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), with the support of SOVICO Group.

UNESCO emphasised that the COVID-19 pandemic may limit the movement of each person, but it cannot stop the flow of creativity.

The "Hanoi is..." contest is expected to receive entries with unique ideas from the community of artists using various media such as painting, illustration, and design. Entries can freely represent a Hanoi through each author's own artistic and emotional prism.

Entries must meet the following requirements: eligible works must be submitted with the registration form; the original file of the entry must have a resolution of 300dpi, with a minimum size of 40cm x 40cm.

The jury features the participation of prominent artists within the painting and illustration community: Xuan Lam, Tu Na, Kawako Giang Nguyen, X.Lan and Noh-a.

The total prize value of the contest is over VND 60 million, including one first prize, four second prizes, one voting prize; and 24 prizes for outstanding works.
