Mai Vang Awards honours outstanding artists

Outstanding artists in the fields of movie, music and theatre were honoured at the annual Mai Vang (Golden Ochna) Awards ceremony at the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House on January 20.

The awards, as voted by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper readers, aims to honour artists who have made positive contributions to the arts and to audiences; and to reflect the audience’s interest in music, theatre, art, feature films, television, and activities in the fields of culture and art.

Speaking at the ceremony, Bui Thanh Liem, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, said that the 27th Golden Mai Awards have been a long, proud, and special journey compared to previous iterations.

The Mai Vang Award Ceremony not only continues the tradition of honouring artists, but has also introduced special award categories, including Excellent Cultural - Art Works, Artists for the Community, Artists Lifetime for the Community, and Cultural - Art programmes and works serving the community in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic, especially during the recent period of epidemic prevention and control. These are awards and titles unprecedented in the history of the Mai Vang Award.

According to Bui Thanh Liem, with the goal of contributing to the improvement of everyone's lives, this award ceremony is held with the desire to always preserve and promote the value of spiritual life, and continue to promote the good traditions of the past 27 years.

The organising board awarded nine Mai Vang awards to artists, singers, and music groups. In the field of music, the Favourite Pop Singer Award went to singer Noo Phuoc Thinh, while the title of Favourite Folk Music Performer went to the late artist and singer Phi Nhung.

In the theatre category, the Favourite Actor Award went to artist Vo Minh Lam, and actress Hong Trang won the Favourite Comic Actor-Actress award.

The play "Nang Xe Da" by director Hoa Ha received the award for Favourite Theatrical Play.

In the film category, singer and artist Ngo Kien Huy won the Favourite MC and Actor Award.

The Favourite Actress Award went to actress Thuy Ngan. The movie "Cay Tao No Hoa" (When the Apple Tree Blooms) won the Favourite TV Film Award.

In addition, the organising board awarded special prizes, such as the Artist for the Community Award to the artist MC Quyen Linh and the Lifetime Artist for the Community Award for People's Artist Kim Cuong.

The organising board also presented the prizes for Best Song, Favourite Music Video, and Favourite TV programme.

On this occasion, the 27th Mai Vang Award Ceremony in 2021 also reviewed the one-year journey in implementing the meaningful programme "Mai Vang Nhan Ai".
