Nhan Dan/VNA – Nearly 200 photos featuring Vietnam’s seas and islands have been put on display at an exhibition in Hanoi to raise public awareness of the defence of national sea and island sovereignty.

The photos were selected from among tens of thousands of images from Vietnam News Agency (VNA) documentaries depicting the country’s beloved Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes and the daily activities of soldiers and people there.

Also featured are working visits by leaders of the Party, State, Government and the National Assembly to maritime areas and islands.

In addition, the photos reflect the development of the Vietnam-Russia oil and gas joint venture Vietsovpetro over the past 50 years.

Speaking at the November 20 opening ceremony, VNA Deputy General Director Ngo Ha Thai hailed the agency’s photojournalists for gathering such a rich collection of material on the nation’s seas and islands and the life of local people.

Defending national sovereignty at sea and on islands has always been a subject explored by VNA photojournalists, Thai stressed, adding that it also forms part of the agency’s political mission.

Co-hosted by the Vietnam News Agency and Vietsovpetro, the event runs until November 26.
