The artist will deliver a speech on his work and contributions on December 11 at AKV St.Joost auditorium in Onderwijsboulevard 256, Den Bosch.
Tran Luong is famous for his emotional art works condemning crackdowns, emphasising human resilience and empowering the individual through personal action and self-reflection.
He also significantly contributed to the development of spaces, initiatives, networks and communities for performance and video arts in Vietnam and the region as well as the freedom of speech and international dialogue.
In addition to Vietnamese artist, 11 others were also presented the awards from Colombia, India, Peru, Turkey, Guatemala, Chile Brazil, Philippines, Indonesia and Nigeria. Abel Rodríguez from Colombia won the Principal Prince Claus Award — the most prestigious prize, worth EUR100,000 — while others receive EUR25,000 each.
The Prince Claus Fund Awards are presented annually to individuals and organisations in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean for their excellent achievements in culture and development as well as for the positive and wide-ranging impacts of their works on environment, culture and society.
The Prince Claus Fund has also supported numerous cultural and arts projects around the world and in Vietnam, including ‘One planet’ by Nguyen Manh Hung and ‘The broken chapters’ by Nguyen Tran Nam, the multiplex project of contemporary art entitled ‘Skylines with flying people’ and a book on Hanoi by photographer Quang Phung.
