Water puppetry to be performed in Fukuoka, Japan

The Thang Long Water Puppetry Theatre will perform seven water puppet shows for Japanese audiences in Fukuoka city from August 25-27, as part of the Hanoi Cultural Days festival in Fukuoka.

The artists from the theatre will give unique performances including games with Teu - a familiar character in traditional water puppetry - drum performances, and lion and dragon dances, as well as present the daily activities of Vietnamese farmers.

The artists will also perform numerous Vietnamese and Japanese folk songs with traditional musical instruments such as the flute, monochord and T'rung (bamboo xylophone).

Through the performances, Japanese audiences will be able to learn more about water puppetry, one of the most unique forms of traditional folk arts, as well as the land and people of Vietnam, particularly the capital Hanoi.

Over the recent years, Vietnam and Japan have co-organised many cultural exchange events, contributing to enhancing the co-operation and solidarity between the two nations and two peoples.

The Hanoi Days festival in Fukuoka is being held from August 22-28 with a wide variety of cultural and arts activities.
