The opening ceremony was attended by Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Manh Hung and representatives from embassies of ASEAN countries in Laos, as well as Vietnamese people in Laos.

The exhibition showcases 60 documentary photos reflecting the development of the Vietnamese diplomatic sector over the past 70 years.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Hung said that during the wartime, the diplomatic sector upheld the Vietnamese people’s tradition of both combating and negotiating, and focused on taking full advantage of the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia alliance and the support of people for peace and justice all over the world.

In the peacetime, the sector has paid attention to maintaining a peaceful and favourable environment for national development and firmly safeguarding independence, sovereignty, unification and territorial integrity, while continuously increasing the country’s role in the international arena, he stated.

To date, Vietnam has set up diplomatic ties with 185 countries and has become a member of nearly 70 regional and international organisations, he said, adding that the time-honoured friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive co-operation with Laos always tops its multilateral external relations.

Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith stated that over the past seven decades, the two countries’ diplomatic sectors have regularly exchanged information and experience as well as supported each other in many areas. He also expressed his thanks to the Vietnamese Party, government, people and Foreign Ministry for their timely and valuable assistance for Laos.

The photo exhibition will remain open to visitors until August 30.
