In the 13th season of the annual programme, this year's event saw several changes with flexibility in the form and conditions for registration to create a more attractive playground for young people who love photography. In addition to the technical elements, Canon PhotoMarathon 2018 also encourages breakthrough innovation from contestants, including photos captured from drones or action cameras.

Still retaining the tradition of the competition, each of the three themes of the PhotoMarathon Hanoi 2018 were announced in turn just minutes after contestants applied their photos for the previous subject. Photographers must then race around for about three hours to capture their best pictures for each subject.

There are first, runner-up and merit prizes in each category, plus the highest grand prize for the best photographer, who will be rewarded with a trip to Japan to participate in the Canon Photomarathon Asia Championship 2019.

General Director of Canon Marketing Vietnam, Hiroshi Yokota, said that the contest aimed not only to bring the best visual experience for everyone, but also inspire them to spiritually pursue their passion, thus helping young people who love photography to live with what they love, which is to indulge in photography.

In addition, as every year, the programme continues to donate the entire subscription fee from the attendees to the charitable "Canon - For the future generation" fund to build new classrooms and offer school facilities for disadvantaged students across Vietnam. In 2017, an estimated VND300 million in funding was allocated for the construction of a school campus in the disadvantaged district of Tuyen Hoa, Quang Binh province.

Following the contest in Hanoi, Canon PhotoMarathon will go to Ho Chi Minh City on November 3. This will also be the closing stage of this year's Canon PhotoMarathon in Vietnam.
