Under the framework of activities at the Hue Traditional Craft Festival in 2019, the exhibition displays nearly 50 Chau Ban mentioning the activities of units belonging to the imperial workshop system under the Nguyen dynasty in the process of preparing materials, labuor and production organisations in the fields of manipulating the furniture, coining money, building boats, producing weapons and construction materials.
On the same day, the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre also opened an exhibition named ‘Imperial workshop under Nguyen’s Dynasty with the Quintessence of Vietnamese Craft’.
Since 1885, due to the socio-political impact, the number of workshops has narrowed, just enough to meet the imperial demands in some fields with very limited scale. But professional skills and know-how continue to be transferred by the labours to apprentices. That is also one of the factors that helps traditional handicraft continue to be developed, contributing to diversifying industries and products in the traditional craft villages in Hue and other localities in the country.
The exhibitions not only bring an opportunity to admire the royal objects, with variety of types, style and sophistication of decorative patterns, which created from skillful hands and delicate aesthetic thinking of craftsmen, but also help the public and tourists more understand about the organisational structure, operating method and operation of the imperial workshop system under the Nguyen dynasty.
The exhibitions run until August 25, 2019.
