Vibrant activities nationwide celebrate New Year 2020

A wide variety of vibrant activities were held in various provinces and cities nationwide to celebrate the New Year 2020on January 1.

A ceremony was held at Phu Bai International Airport in the central province of Thua Thien – Hue to welcome the first domestic and international visitors to the province in 2020.

The first group of visitors, comprised of 200 passengers, arrived at the airport at 9:45pm on Vietnam Airlines’ flight VN1543 from Hanoi to Hue.

Khac Ngoc Ba from Hanoi and couple Bruno Sutter and Isabella Sutter (French nationality) were the first guests to set foot in Phu Bai International Airport.

In the same morning, the Hue Monuments Conservation Centrewelcomed and presented flowers to its first ten visitors, including two Vietnamese and eight foreigners, to Hue’s heritage site.

* Quang Binh Provincial Department of Tourism organised a ceremony to welcome and extended New Year greetings to the first delegation of tourists to the province this year.

They arrived in Dong Hoi Airport on a Vietnam Airlines’ flight,coded VN1400, from Ho Chi Minh City.

On the occasion, the first visitors to World’s Natural Heritage, Phong Nha – Ke Bang, were greeted warmly.

* Quang Nam Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in collaboration with Hoi An City People’s Committee, held a ceremony at Tra Que Vegetable Village in the ancient city to welcome and present flowers to the first 19 foreign tourists, from Italy.

At the event, the Tra Que destination – a 400-year-old clean vegetable village, was officially opened to the public.

* Also yesterday, thousands of ethnic minority people from various localities in the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien flocked to Dien Bien Phu City to join in traditional art and sport activities as well as folk games, including ‘con’ (colourful fabric balls) throwing and tug-of-war.

A traditional boat racing festival was held in the province-level town of Muong Lay, featuring the participation of nine teams.

* The 21st cross-country run was held in Thu Dau Mot City, in the southern province of Binh Duong, by the province’s Television and Radio in collaboration with the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The tournament gathered 105 teams from 31 provinces and cities around the country.
