Nhan Dan Online – The Quang Ngai provincial Border Guard Command inaugurated the first search and rescue station in Quang Ngai province and central Vietnam at Ly Son Island on June 1.

The construction of the station began in January with a total investment of over VND70 billion (US$3.3million) and includes housing and office facilities, medical equipment, communication devices and essential equipment for search and rescue activities.

When it is in full operation, the station will provide better living and working conditions for officers and soldiers on duty to conduct search and rescue work, and improve medical treatment for fisherman on Ly Son Island and the central region.

The station will also contribute to developing the marine economy, controlling natural resources and ensuring national defence and security.

In addition, the Ministry of National Defense will provide the rescue station with a well-equipped 450 tonne search and rescue vessel.
